Ensuring Liner Top Isolation, Vertice Oil Tools Steps in After Pressure Test Failure
An operator in South Texas ran a 4″ x 5 ½” refrac liner but couldn’t reach the optimal setting depth due to well debris, which prevented string manipulation and fluid circulation. After an unsuccessful cement job, which failed liner top pressure testing, the customer tasked Vertice to come up with a cost effective yet reliable solution for liner top isolation before the start of the refrac.
The Solution: The DEFENDER™ Compression Set Packer With Tieback Latch Seal Assembly
Vertice was able to deploy its DEFENDER™ Compression Set Packer with a tieback latch seal assembly and sting into the existing 4” x 5 ½” liner top. Due to the low setting force of the DEFENDER™ Packer, no heavy weight drill pipe was required to complete the setting procedure. After stinging into the liner top, the tieback latch was pressure tested and the running tool was released from the assembly and packer was subsequently set. An integrity test of 9950psi was successfully performed on the liner top exceeding the requirements for refrac operations, which would not have been possible without 100% liner top isolation.
