North Park Operator Improves Operation Efficiency with the EDGE™ Frac Plug Technology
Vertice Oil Tools improves efficiency for North Park operators. The EDGE™ Frac Plug reduces downtime with quick deployment and reliable performance. When a perf gun misfire or screen out occurs, the OPTIMUS™ system activates, eliminating the need for coiled tubing and saving customers hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Quantify Gains, Propel Progress
Perf Gun Misfire Increasing Downtime and Bloating Cost, a Frac Plug Technology Challenge
A frac operation in the North Park Formation faced unique challenges due to the remote location of their wells, necessitating a reliable frac plug solution. Specifically, they required a frac plug that could recover from issues such as screen outs or perf gun misfires after setting, without rigging coiled tubing (CT). The operator wanted to avoid the costly and time-consuming process of mobilizing CT, which could significantly extend downtime in these isolated locations.
Mobilizing CT not only incurs high costs for the operation itself but also adds standby expenses for equipment already at the site. These additional costs can quickly become substantial, especially in remote areas with more complex logistics. The operator sought a solution to minimize downtime, reduce operational expenses, and eliminate the need for immediate CT deployment, enabling them to continue operations efficiently without costly interruptions.
The Solution: The Patented EDGE™ Frac Plug with Misfire Contingency Technology OPTIMUS™
Vertice Oil Tools utilized its patented EDGE™ Frac Plug with OPTIMUS™ technology to offer this frac operations the advantages of a “ball-in-place” frac plug, but without the typical risks. Unlike traditional designs, the EDGE™ Frac Plug eliminates the need for a frac ball and features the industry first and most innovative built-in gun misfire contingency. This unique technology called OPTIMUS™ allows the operator to bypass the plug at any point, restoring flow and cleaning the wellbore to prepare for the next stage with plugs and guns.
During the use of the EDGE™ Frac Plug, the operator experienced a screen out on Stages 1 and 2. The well was pressurized to 8,500 psi to “prime” the OPTIMUS™ component of the EDGE™ Frac Plug. After priming, the well was briefly flowed back to “activate” the mechanism. and then excess sand was pumped at rates up to 28 BPM through the EDGE™ Frac plug, both stages were successfully recovered and completed. The operator then advanced to the next stage, avoiding the need for coiled tubing and over 72 hours of downtime.
Revolutionize and Develop: Leading the Way in Efficient and Reliable EDGE™ Frac Plug Technology
The reliability of our EDGE™ Frac Plug and OPTIMUS™ technology has greatly improved operators’ ability to stay on budget and schedule. In the event of a perf gun misfire or screen out, the EDGE™ Frac Plug keeps operations running smoothly, eliminating the need for costly CT rigging and minimizing downtime. After a successful operation, the operator, like many others, has placed full trust in Vertice Oil Tools’ EDGE™ Frac Plug for future projects.
Breakthrough and Evolve: Leading the Charge in Reliable Patented Frac Plug Technology
The performance of Vertice Oil Tools’ patented EDGE™ Frac Plug and OPTIMUS™ technology in this operation has reinforced the operator’s trust in its reliability. By successfully passing the pressure test and maintaining full access to the lateral, the EDGE™ Frac Plug has once again proven to be an efficient and dependable solution. Operators can now count on it to reduce downtime and avoid costly toe prep interventions. Following this success, the Delaware Basin operator, like many others, continues to rely on Vertice Oil Tools’ technology for future well completions and challenging operations.
