EDGE™ FRAC PLUG Saves Delaware Basin Operator After 150ft Lateral Casing Pressure Fail
Delaware Basin operators have significantly reduced downtime by using Vertice Oil Tools’ EDGE™ Frac Plug. This advanced plug, featuring patented OPTIMUS™ technology, provides field-proven gun misfire and screen-out contingency capabilities for reliable performance. It allows operators to test casing up to the maximum allowable operating pressure and then bypass the plug to re-establish communication with Toe Sleeves.

Toe Port Leaks Undermine Stage 1 Lateral Progress, Patented EDGE™ Frac Plug Equipment Application
A frac operator in the Delaware Basin encountered a pressure test failure during toe prep operations because of leaking toe ports. Local regulations mandated a successful pressure test before the frac operations could begin. The completion plan involved fracking Stage 1 through the open toe ports, and the operator was keen to avoid losing around 150 feet of the completed lateral. The only available solution was to set a frac tool plug above the toe ports and start the well from Stage 2. Seeking to pressure test the well and maintain the full lateral length, the operator turned to Vertice Oil Tools for assistance.
The Solution: The Patented EDGE™ Frac Plug with Build-in Bypass Feature
Vertice Oil Tools deployed its patented EDGE™ Frac Plug to provide the operator with a solution that allowed for pressure testing the well while retaining access to the lateral below after passing the casing test. Unlike traditional designs, the EDGE™ Frac Plug eliminates the need for a frac ball and incorporates a built-in bypass OPTIMUS™ technology, enabling the operator to pump through the plug at any stage of the operation after it is set and the wellbore is isolated. The EDGE™ Frac Plug was assembled and pumped down to a depth of 22,280 feet, positioned above the leaking toe ports. It was successfully set and casing pressure test was conducted for 30 minutes, with the perforating guns remaining in the hole.
After the pressure test, the well was bled off at the surface, triggering the OPTIMUS™ bypass technology to activate and allowing fluid to flow through the plug. An injection rate was established, and the perforating guns fired to prepare Stage 2. The wireline BHA was pulled out of the hole, and the operator moved forward with frac operations. In this case, the operator chose to frac stages 1 and 2 simultaneously, preserving approximately 150 feet of the completed lateral and avoiding the costly toe prep intervention to test and frac both stages.
