Refrac Industry Challenges: The Pressing Need for Custom Refrac Tools

A Bakken operator was in search of alternative options for a 3 ½” dissolvable refrac plug. Their primary concern was finding a plug that provides best zonal isolation. Determined to find a reliable solution that met their requirements, they aimed for a plug offering both ball-in-place and ball-drop features. Our ECHO™ Dissolvable Refrac Plug provided them with the much-needed flexibility tailored to their specific operations.

The Solution: A Patented Dissolvable Refrac Plug to Ensure Smooth Operations

Vertice Oil Tools successfully deployed our patented 3 ½” ECHO™ Dissolvable Refrac Plug, providing the operator with the flexibility of both ball-in-place and ball-drop options. All stages were completed using the ECHO™ Refrac Plug, running smoothly at pumping rates of 4-7 bpm and 320 fpm. The stimulation of these stages was flawless, with 100% zonal isolation.

Passing All Pressure Tests, Meeting All Operator Criteria

Following the successful completion of stimulation stages, the operator deployed another ECHO™ Dissolvable Refrac Plug in the final stage after stimulation, positioning it above the top perforations. This plug underwent rigorous pressure testing at approximately 8,500 psi for 2 hours, with pressure cycled three times during the test. Remarkably, the refrac plug demonstrated superior zonal isolation throughout the test, surpassing the operator’s qualification criteria.

Proven Ability to Overcome Challenges and Restore Efficiency

The exceptional performance of our ECHO™ plug in this test has significantly boosted the operator’s confidence in its capabilities. They can now rely on the ECHO™ Dissolvable Refrac Plug for optimal zonal isolation and improved stage treatment in future refrac wells. A specially developed, sand-friendly continuous jay and integral bypass system allows for reliable running, setting, and retrieving during fracturing operations. This system employs low specific gravity balls, promoting effective flow back when transitioning the well to production.
